Entrepreneurship study at the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship at the Eller College is open to graduate and undergraduate students across campus who want to learn to make any undertaking more successful by mastering the process of innovation.
Some of the questions interested students usually ask include:
Can I put together the team I want to work with?
If you already have a team, that's great! We'll work with you to make sure your teammates represent all the relevant and necessary areas.
Do I need to assemble a team on my own to apply?
No — the McGuire Center organizes a variety of activities to help students form suitable, well rounded teams.
Do I need to have an new business idea to apply?
No — the McGuire Program has resources and partnerships to make innovative ideas available to student teams. You could also join a team that already has an idea — with three- to five-person teams, not everyone needs a venture idea, just the drive and commitment to bring a new idea to reality.
What if I do already have an idea for a new venture?
Great! We'll work with you to determine if the idea is suited for the McGuire Program. To ensure the best learning vehicles, we look for ideas that are innovative (a new product, service, or model), scalable, and seemingly viable. If your work in the Program suggests the idea is not ultimately viable, that in itself is a great outcome! It means you're learning critical skills in the process of innovation, and our faculty will help your team identify an alternate idea for the remainder of the program.
Do all ideas need to be built around technology?
No — your team can work with any idea that seems viable and is innovative and scalable.
How do I apply to the Program?
The application process is simple:
Submit the completed application at McClelland Hall, Room 202. Your application will include your fall transcripts (unofficial okay if your name appears on the print out) plus an essay on your interest in entrepreneurship and what you expect to gain from the program.
We'll then contact you to schedule a selection committee interview.
Program acceptance beings in the early Spring 2008 semester.
